This is a photo of a lady dressed up as a vine at the grand ol’ opry resort. I’m playing at the grand ol’ opry for the next 3 nights, and I think this is going to be an awesome place to shoot photos. There is a 4 acre bourbon street replica outside my window, and I have a 70-200 lens to capture the fun. This is pretty up close and personal though….Canon EOS Rebel f2.8, 1/250, ISO400, 200mm.

When you’re young, you look at television and think, ‘There’s a conspiracy. The networks have conspired to dumb us down.’ But when you get a little older, you realize that’s not true. The networks are in business to give people exactly what they want. That’s a far more depressing thought. Conspiracy is optimistic! You can shoot the bastards! We can have a revolution! But the networks are really in business to give people what they want. It’s the truth.

Ooops…I mean WOW!

So, I’m doing all of the post-production work on the images I shot at the peck music competition. For those of you who haven’t done concert photography, it sucks because 1. Lighting is never good and 2. you have to be concious of standard concert etiquette. In addressing #1 I found a neat trick on pure accident…

HOW TO BRIGHTEN IMAGES WITH OUT NOISE

sounds like a miracle- and it kind of is. Start by doing your usual color balance, blah blah blah. Now do your new layer & high pass. STOP NOW…this is where the tutorial begins-

 1. Open the color pallete and go to your RGB. Set it to R186 G187 and B188.

 2. Choose the paintbrush tool and choose a SMALL paint brush size.

 3. Now go over the areas that are dark with the paint brush- notice them lighten without all the noise?

I found this when I was trying to merely remove the Highpass from certain areas with the paintbrush tool, but I’m glad it happened. I’m not sure why it works, but it does, so who cares?

And now I will know how to do this forever because I’ve logged it on my blog. Thanks folks.
